The Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy (WYMLA) is a grade 6-13, single-gender, early college, leadership academy within the Wake County Public School System. Located on two campus, grades 6-10 are held in the Thompson School Building in downtown Raleigh, and grades 11-13 are at Saint Augustine’s University located in the historic Oakwood neighborhood of Raleigh. The school opened in the Fall of 2012 and currently serves approximately 150 students in the Middle School (6-8), 100 students in the High School (9-10), and 100 in our Early College Program (11-12 currently with expansion to 11-13). WYMLA strives to develop young men into leaders who have a positive impact on their communities through Scholarship, Service, and Success.

 

WYMLA students can participate in many clubs; chess, debate, Beta Club, Science Olympiad, FBLA, and National Honor Society are just a few examples.

Not only do these men sharpen their minds at WYMLA. They also have the oppertunity to do athletics at Daniels Middle School and Broughton High School. WYMLA students have excelled in soccer, swimming, lacrosse, wrestling, baseball, golf, football, and basketball.

​

Over 50% of the class of 2018 will graduate with 4.3+ grade point average taking mostly college level and honors classes. Iron Sharpens Iron. These young men have demanded the best of each other since 7th grade and the results are amazing.

Alumni

The Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy has graduated its' first two classes of amazing young men. These young men have moved on to many of the nations finest colleges. They are demonstrating leadership as Presidential Scholarship winners, college athletes and ROTC Scholars. They are a great group of men. They were accepted to the following colleges. These 60 young men earned over $1,000,000.00 in scholarships.
